Acting Training for Beginners - Advanced Actors in Edinburgh

So, you have decided you want to be an actor?\r\n\r\nActing is not an easy way to get rich and famous. It takes hard work, dedication, focus and determination. Showbusiness is the most frustrating, demoralising and energy sapping industry there is. However, it can also be the most rewarding! It is a business full of contradictions; Monday you may not make the grade but on Tuesday you are ‘the best we have seen all week’ and you’re hired.\r\n\r\nWe have workshops for all levels of ability, so whether you are an experienced actor looking for professional development or a complete beginner with no idea what to do with a script, we have a workshop to suit you.\r\n\r\nEvery actor is different and we work with you to improve your strengths and challenge your weaknesses. Most class numbers are limited to around 10 participants in order that you get as much 1-1 individual time as possible.\r\nworkshops\r\n\r\nOur workshops are split into the following categories:\r\nAdult Beginner\r\nAdult Intermediate\r\nAdult Advanced\r\nYoung Actors (13 - 17)\r\nSuitable for All\r\nNon-Actor/Corporate \r\n\r\nWHAT HAPPENS AFTER ATTENDING A WORKSHOP?\r\nThat is up to you! In order to work as an actor you must be pro-active and motivated. If you leave one of our workshops and go home to wait for the phone to ring, you will have wasted your money. No one is going to offer you work on a silver platter just because you have attended a class. It is up to you to market yourself effectively, get or create work and network – you are in charge of your career, not your agent, friends or peers.\r\n\r\nThese workshops are designed to give you an insight into what is required of an actor and serve as a reminder of what life as a working performer involves. Most workshop participants leave our 2-day or 5-day introduction or refresher workshops with a clear vision for their future in the performance world. Why? Because most people will fit into one of the following categories after completing one of these workshops:\r\n\r\n* YES, acting what I want to do and these workshops have given me a renewed passion for it. I need to get a headshot photography session organised, start working towards gaining my Equity card and Spotlight entry and start putting myself forward for auditions and marketing myself effectively.\r\n\r\n* YES, acting is what I want to do but I realise I need much more experience and training. These workshops have given me confidence in my ability so I can now take the plunge and look into further acting training*.\r\n\r\n* YES, acting is what I want to do but as a hobby, not for a living and I have been given advice on joining some non-professional theatre companies. I am glad I haven\'t wasted lots of money on headshots and industry memberships.\r\n\r\nNB: we will be adding part-time accredited courses through Trinity Guildhall School of Music and Drama in autumn 2009. However, we can point you in the right direction should you wish to undertake full-time study \r\n\r\nFUNDING & PAYING FOR YOUR TRAINING\r\nMost of our workshops are eligible for ILA funding and hosted through Up Front Training, so if you are over 16, live in Scotland and earn £18,000 per year or less, you are entitled to £200 worth of funding each year to pay for your acting training with us. Visit the ILA Scotland website for more information or email us for an information sheet.
